In 2017, we purchased a little chunk of land in Youngsville that would be our homestead. In 2018, we built our home on our little 3.75 acres and our journey began. We soon added outbuildings and a barn and our farm adventure began!
We are a family of five with our oldest daughter off to college now. Neither of us came from "farm family" so we are learning as we go. We have found the homestead community to very supportive and have welcomed our tons of questions! Shannon grew up in the city, but always had a special calling with animals, starting with dogs. She owns a dog training business as her "real job" so there's never a shortage of dogs on the property as well. David owns a handyman business which comes in handy for all the projects around the farm.
In 2019 we purchased our first ADGA registered alpine goats so the kids could show them at the State Fair. This purchase launched an incredible journey into the "goat world". Since then, we have learned all about shows and pedigrees and milk stars and performance testing etc and still have tons to learn. We stumbled into the world of miniature goats as well and fell in love with Mini Alpines. We are also members of MDGA with our registered minis.
We also dabble in the other farm things as well. Over the last couple of years, we have tried gardening, raising meat rabbits, and raising hogs to feed our family. With hectic lives, these adventures have taken a backseat to the goats for now. We look forward to getting into some of these things again as life slows down a little. For now, we are focusing on our goats, running our businesses and chauffeuring the two legged kids to soccer and baseball!
